Infrared spectophotometry (IRTF)

Infrared spectophotometry (IRTF)

Infrared spectophotometry is an analysis technique consisting of subjecting a sample of material to infrared radiation. The organic molecules subjected to this radiation absorb it while modifying their vibration energies. According to the types of bonds and chemical functions present in the environment, an infrared spectrum that is characteristic of the sample or if its analysed surface area is obtained.

Results:

- Nature of the polymers and additives
- Aging gradients and mechanisms (oxidation, hydrolysis, depolymerization, etc.)
- Nature of migrations, blooming, deposits, pollution, inclusions, etc.
- Nature of interfaces.

Equipment:

- Perkin Elmer Spectrum 2 - FT-IR spectrometer

- Nicolet Avatar 730 Thermo spectrometer
Accessory: ATR Smart Orbit mono reflection diamond crystal
Accessory: ATR Thunderdome mono reflection germanium crystal

Associated standards:

  • ISO 4650
  • NF T 46-054
