Gas chromatography (GC) combined with mass spectrometry (MS)

This analysis involves the injection of compounds in gaseous form, which may originate from the pyrolysis or thermal desorption of a polymer material, or from the vaporization of a concentrated liquid extract. This mixture of compounds is transported by a carrier gas to a chromatographic column placed in an oven in which selective separation takes place. A mass spectrometer is used to identify the eluted products.

  • Nature of polymers and polymer associations
  • Nature of additives (plasticizers, stabilizers, vulcanizing agents, fireproofing agents, expansion agents, etc.)
  • Nature of absorbed or extracted products (fluids, solvents, fats, pollutants, etc.)

Gerstel TDS 3 thermodesorber
CDS pyrolyzer - GC/MS Perkin Elmer:
